In the 21st Century, what is considered our individualistic perspective largely dictates modern?
As expressed in literature and through mass modern culture, our concept of what constitutes Modernism is drastically different from that of many other cultures worldwide. The point of this article is not to argue why we should or shouldn’t consider Traveling as a form of Modernism.
Instead, I would like to question whether or not we should be so quick to condemn the very idea of Traveling. After all, there are many benefits associate with Traveling.
First and foremost, let’s consider Traveling as a form of culture. As understood by historians, modern culture pertains to “a set of values that emerged in reaction to the rise of industrial and urbanization that came about between the end of the nineteenth century and the early twentieth century.” Thus, for many people worldwide, the act of Traveling is associate with escaping from and observing the kinds of cultural practices that were a part of everyday life for most of their indigenous cultures.
Modernity, in many people’s eyes, is the separation of art, literature, music, and other cultural practices from their origins. For those of us who grew up in rural areas, the question of Traveling is often far from a simple one.
For example, it is not uncommon for us to be worried about being seen by our classmates. Even people who do not personally travel often still experience several social and even personal challenges.
Traveling allows us to escape from the realities of our day-to-day existence. For those of us who have traveled and experienced the beauty and wonder of foreign cultures, It is a genuinely refreshing and invigorating experience. When we are expose to new things, we are tempt to see them in a new way.
It can lead to an increase in our appreciation for the traditions and customs of other cultures.
- In some sense, Traveling may be define as a way of opening up to other cultures. For example, many of us speak English but have never even visited a country where people speak a different language. Such exposure allows us to learn a new language in a brief period. It is pretty easy to learn a language that over 1 billion people speak!
- In today’s world, many of us are looking for ways to make a statement about where we are located, who we are, and what we want our future to look like. We want to define ourselves through our clothes, materials, and cultures. It is a perfect way to do this. We will be able to explore and express ourselves at will!
Another reason we should consider traveling as a means of modern culture is that it allows us to travel abroad. It is sporadic these days to go to another country on your own.
Instead, many of us depend on companies and tour organizers to arrange for us to visit various destinations worldwide. We might choose to visit London, Paris, Rome, or Amsterdam. These places are all spectacular, and we need to explore their culture and traditions on our own.
Finally, and perhaps most importantly, travel allows us to experience things that we usually take for granted. We can go out of town and eat in restaurants that we typically see only in books. We can rent a hotel that is hundreds of miles away from our home. It is an experience that few of us ever get to have.
What motivates us to travel, what makes it worth traveling, and the appeal of specific destinations globally?
Travel has become a popular pastime for many people, and it seems that many more are starting to take it seriously. What is it about travel and destinations that can make it worthwhile for a person to devote a significant amount of their life to it? When answering these questions, we can better determine if travel is something that we should consider as part of modern culture.
One of the things that modern cultures seem to have in common is the desire for novelty. Without this, we would soon become predictable and plain boring. The very word “seldom” tells us that we are at risk of becoming boring and predictable. We need to be able to shock and amaze our friends with something new now and then.
How does Travelling help?
Travel also allows us to broaden our horizons. It is especially true when it comes to the cultural diversity of our modern world. We have a superb selection of countries and cultures to choose from. And they offer a wealth of experiences and insights that we can readily take back with us. These differences enrich our lives positively that travel becomes a necessary part of our everyday lives.
There is no greater pleasure than sharing culture with another person. And taking pleasure in the differences that each one brings. And this enjoyment becomes even more pronounced when it becomes clear. That culture and travel do not have to be mutually exclusive.
Travel and culture are closely intertwined.
Therefore, the answer to the question “should we consider travel as part of modern culture?” depends on the type of travel you are interest in. For example, while some people might view an Asian luxury safari as a somewhat frivolous pursuit of getting away from it all. Others might regard it as a necessary part of modern life.
While you might find one or the other activities of a particular culture fascinating. Both types share many commonalities, which draw countless people to the unique culture of the area in which they live.
However, just because you are part of the modern culture. Does not mean that you have to accept all of the things. That come with it. Cultures are as diverse as the individuals who live within them. And therefore, should we consider each side of our modern world as a whole? Or, should we view each culture as only a piece of the total. And separate entities that exist only as a reflection of the other?
It seems that viewing a given culture as an entity independent of its reflection can be dangerous. For example, while some cultures may frown on certain forms of entertainment. It would seem to follow that the people who like such things are somehow guilty of some decadence.
When we look at the different ways in which people have tried. To escape from the modern world and reinvent it. We get much more complex answers than this. It would seem that if it were not for the existence of other cultures. Therefore, we could never escape the modern culture.
Traveling is a way to see different points of view. And thus, culture could also be see as a kind of vehicle. The fact that travel has become almost second nature makes it easy to justify such a view. There is no doubt that modern living is fast-pace. And this contributes to many people’s inability to find the time to truly enjoy themselves. And pursue hobbies that they might have once consider luxuries.
Modern people are constantly running short of time and cannot stop and reflect on things like art and culture. They must keep going, leading to a kind of monotony that could potentially lead to mental illness.
Therefore, we should consider that travel and especially long-distance Traveling. Are part of the modern culture and are require for our mental health.
There are many arguments against the idea that travel should be avoid because it is part of modern culture. However, these arguments often ignore the fact that the contemporary culture is made up of many different cultures. And that those that do not exist here are almost certainly disappear. Therefore, it is hard to avoid mixing with other people if you are committed to the idea of modern culture. The very nature of travel means that it creates new opportunities to explore new cultures. And learn about new ideas and histories.
